The History of Flight of the Valkyries
The timing couldn't have
been better.
2007 was the year for female-fronted metal in the
U.S.
With culminating events like the "Hottest Chicks in Metal Tour," and
the ascending amount of female-fronted metal bands both debuting and touring in
the US (including Nightwish, After Forever, Within Temptation, Visions of
Atlantis, Echoes of Eternity, In This Moment, The Agonist, and many others), the
U.S. metal scene was begging for an all female-fronted metal
festival.
Word was announced that Doro Pesch (Warlock, Doro) was making
her return to the US for her first North American tour in several years. The
timing was just perfect.
Nathan "The SwordLord" Block of SwordLord Productions considered
himself fortunate enough that the Doro tour came to St. Paul, Minnesota on a
Saturday.
The stars had aligned and SwordLord Productions was soon
announcing the first ever FLIGHT OF THE VALKYRIES metal festival - the
ONLY annual US festival dedicated to metal bands with female lead
vocalists.
The festival debuted in June of 2007, including additional
bands on the roster such as Vainglory, Earthen, The Ottoman Empire, Visideon,
Spiritual Decay, and Sirens of Titan.
In June of 2008, the flight of the
Valkyries returned to Station 4 for it's second annual installment featuring
