A Maxi Dress By Any Other Name
Looking for ladies maxi dresses? It sure is confusing. A maxi dress, if you want to get technical, is the name used for an informal dress which has a hem that reaches the floor. It may actually only reach the ankles, it’s not a floor sweeping ball gown, but a light, often patterned dress with distinct characteristics.
Maxi dresses are usually form fitting at the bust and waist, then the shirt will be looser, and flowing out, not an A-line, but a flowing skirt, the kind you can twirl in. Typically they are made from lightweight materials such as polyester or cotton, with a floral, swirl, or other pattern. Of course there are solid colours as well.
Maxi dresses are perfect for semi-formal garden parties, cruises, and tropical holidays where sun protection and coolness are important. They are also frequently worn at weddings, christenings, and events in houses of worship where a long skirt and three quarter sleeves are the perfect modest covering.
You may find many long dresses advertised as a maxi dress, and the name has become somewhat blurred, but the style lives on. These dresses are loved by the women that wear them and they will be around forever as they are so versatile and lovely. If you do get one, you will find it so useful, you’ll soon have several in your closet in no time.
